Paprika vs Misa
Paprika 3 is a mature, paid recipe manager with native apps that work fully offline. Misa is a free meal planner that runs in the browser, suggests a week of dinners and builds one shopping list your household can share by link. We make Misa, so every Paprika fact below comes from Paprika’s own pages and store listings, and the table says where Paprika is better.
Try Misa free, no accountThe short answer
Choose Paprika if you have a large recipe collection and want it in native apps on every device, readable offline, synced, with a detailed pantry, several grocery lists and cooking timers. You pay once per platform.
Choose Misa if you want the week planned for you, amounts scaled for your household, one list sorted by aisle and a partner on the same list without accounts. It is free, but there are no native apps and no automatic sync.

Misa
Price (US): Free. No account, subscription or ads.
Free version: Everything is free; no paid tier.
Where it runs: In the browser on any phone or computer; add it to your home screen. No App Store or Google Play app.
Offline: Opens offline after the first visit; plan and recipes are stored in the browser. Importing recipes and the shared list need a connection. Clearing the browser’s site data deletes them unless you have a backup.
Sync between devices: Recipes and plans do not sync between your devices; each browser keeps its own. Move them with a backup file you keep on Google Drive, OneDrive or iCloud Drive and restore on the other device. Only a shared shopping list is kept on the server.
Recipes to start with: A library of about 2,570 dinner recipes in English, plus your own.
Saving recipes from websites: Paste one or more links. The site needs readable recipe data. Up to 200 imported recipes per device.
Meal planning: Suggests a week of dinners for your household size and cooking time. Swap a dinner, leave a day free, or let it pick a week from your own recipes that share ingredients.
Grocery list: One list from the week, sorted by aisle; the same ingredient across dinners becomes one row.
Pantry: Tick the staples you always have; they stay off the list. No quantities or dates.
Scaling: Household size 1 to 8 scales every dinner and the list. US or metric units.
Sharing with your household: Send a link to the shopping list. Anyone with it can see, tick and add items, with no account. You can also share a week of dinners by link.
While cooking: Step-by-step cooking view.
Languages: 9 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi and Polish.

Where Paprika is stronger
A real recipe manager: categories, notes, nutrition information, import from older desktop apps like MasterCook, and a browser that saves recipes from hundreds of sites.
Native apps and sync: the same recipes, lists and meal plans on phone, tablet and computer, kept in step by Cloud Sync, and readable offline because the data is on each device.
Pantry and kitchen tools: pantry items with quantities and expiration dates, several grocery lists with custom aisles, and timers you start by tapping a time in the directions.
More languages on iOS: 16 listed in the App Store, including Japanese, Italian, Dutch and the Nordic languages, which Misa does not offer.
Where Misa is stronger
It plans the week: a week of dinners for your household size and cooking time, from about 2,570 recipes, or from your own imported recipes chosen to share ingredients.
The household list without accounts: send a link and the other person sees, ticks and adds items in their browser. Nobody has to buy an app or share a password.
Free on every device: no purchase per platform and no subscription. A phone, a work laptop and a partner’s phone all use the same free app. Each browser keeps its own plan and recipes, though: you move them with a backup file, and only the shopping list is shared live. Misa also covers Arabic and Hindi, which Paprika’s iOS listing does not.
Questions
Is Paprika free? Only in a limited form. The Android app and the Windows trial are free with up to 50 recipes and no cloud sync. The full version is a one-time purchase per platform: in the US on October 21, 2026, $4.99 on iPhone and iPad, $29.99 on Mac and $29.99 on Windows; on Android it is an in-app upgrade. Cloud sync is included once you pay.
Is there a free alternative to Paprika? Misa is free, with no account or subscription. It is a different kind of app: a weekly meal planner with a recipe library and one shopping list, rather than a full recipe manager. If you mainly want to store a large personal recipe collection offline on every device, Paprika does that better.
Can Paprika suggest meals for the week? Paprika gives you daily, weekly and monthly calendars and reusable menus, but you choose the meals. Misa suggests a week of dinners for your household size and cooking time, and can pick a week from your own recipes that share ingredients.
Can my partner and I share a grocery list? In Paprika, you both sign in to the same Paprika account, and each device needs the app. In Misa, you send a link to the shopping list; your partner opens it in the browser, with no account and nothing to buy.
Can I move my Paprika recipes to Misa? Not with a Paprika export file today. If your recipes came from websites, paste their links into Misa’s “Recipe from a link” and it saves the ingredients, steps and photo with a link to the source.
